Before I post these weaving items to Kiijii, I would like to offer students, past students, and those who subscribe to the newsletter the opportunity to purchase these rare items that don't often come up for sale second hand. I will wait until the September to post these items on Kiijii, giving everyone lots of time to decide if they want to make a purchase of a piece of equipment that requires a greater committment in terms of your investment. Rest assured, that when it comes time to re-sell these looms, that you will get what you paid for it, if not more....so it is money that you will recoup later on down the road.

I should also let you know that some of these looms are not immediately available as they still have projects that require completion, and will hopefully be available by around June 1 2016, and at the latest December 5 2016.  All these items are in the Toronto area.

Bamboo and mericerized cotton handwoven shawl

Off the loom recently, this handwoven shawl in mercerized cotton and bamboo. The circles are green on one side, black on the other creating a fascinating visual effect. The bamboo is very soft and produces a nice hand to the textile. I've been exploring this weave structure for the last several months and I am looking forward to more experimentation with it.

This year promises to be a very exciting year at the One of a Kind Show in terms of the wide array of locally hand crafted scarves, shawls and capes as well as handwoven tapestries. As managing designer and artist, Line has formed the tapestry line collective which will continue the practice of tapestry line unlimited to create an eclectic mix of fashion accessories. Line returned recently from New Mexico where she attended a weaving conference and her work and teaching has been greatly inspired by it. A weaving studio will be set up in the middle of the One of a Kind show for you to get a bird's eyeview of what it is like to be a weaver. There will be scheduled demonstrations by myself and my students on a tapestry loom and a fabric weaving loom. This year one of Line's tapestries, Joy, was selected by the American Tapestry Alliance to be part of two group shows: The Elder Gallery at the Nebraska Weslayan University in conjunction with the Textile Society of America conference and will continue on to the American Textile History Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts from January 22 to May 1 2011.

tapestry line unlimited has now expanded to include the tapestry line collective, an always changing group of local weavers and knitters from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). I'm pleased to feature some of their work on my blog to give you a sampling of what you'll find at the upcoming 2010 One of a Kind Show. My booth number is W-07 and I'll be reminding you throughout the next month as I feature the different artisans participating with me at the One of a Kind.

Featured here is some of the work by Kate Kitchen, the first member of the tapestry line collective to be featured here. At left, a braided scarf using merino wool synthetic fibres.

A triangular woven shawl made with 72% merino, 28% acrylic. These items and other items created by Kate Kitchen will be featured at the 2010 One of a Kind Show.

New Directions New Projects

It has been quite awhile since I've posted something here today as one person contacted me to let me know! Thanks for noticing and sorry I've taken so long to respond. Busy....with lots of other projects and shifting emphasis and direction as far as these things go and if you go to my other blogs, you'll see that I'm doing lots of other as exciting things.

I've been diminishing my own personal efforts at creating handwoven and knit garments and expanded my business to include garments and fashion accessories that feature other local artisans and fibre enthusiasts. This also means I've been doing fewer shows, but one thing is certain, is that I continue to do the Christmas One of a Kind Show. This new situation is permitting me to give more time to my on going love affair with tapestry weaving. Tapestry weaving is very time consuming and as I organize my first solo exhibition commencing in September 2011 I have less time to make each and every item I sell at shows and on the website. However, this makes for a much more exciting and diverse collection of items available to the discerning customer looking to find something unique, made by hand (with love), environmentally friendly in the way it was produced (and often in materials chosen), and focusing on local as much as possible.

When I can I'll feature the new scarves, shawls and capes and other fashion accessories I have available for sale.

Weaving with a broken arm!

Every weaver's and knitters worst nightmare...a broken arm. Did it while jogging early one morning last week. However I am constantly surprising myself at how much I can do. I was still able to set uo my fabric weaving loom, AND weave! Ok, granted it's much slower bit it sure is better than not at all! Can't knit though! They say it will be weeks.

A Summer to dye

Just had to share these yummy colours with everyone. It's mesmerizing to see the colour interplay when you are dyeing yarn. Gets me very excited about my upcoming projects.

After a show like the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, there's lots of things that need my attention. First and foremost, the van has to be unloaded, and the inventory and display items put away. This can take at least a whole day. The following day I spend time catching up on all the paperwork stuff I've fallen behind on while getting ready for the show. This is what my desk looks like and that's a good day! A desk....not my favorite place to be. Being dyslexic, paperwork takes me longer than non-dyslexics so that's likely why I get so frustrated.

But I also have planned things to look forward to and start getting organized for that. I'm preparing my skeins of yarn so that I can start dyeing them.


And I'm starting new weaving projects and creating my Fall Winter collection of capes, scarves, shawls and boas.

48th Annual Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibit

Thank you to many customers for yet another successful year at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibit. I realize year after year, that one should never listen to the bad news, and that despite dire talk of recessionary times, there are still many who have the inclination and the income to purchase truly unique and hand crafted items made here in Canada.

All of my one of a kind art scarves sold, as well as many hand woven and knit scarves and shawls.

Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition 2009

I am hoping to delight and surprise you with the innovative and creative art pieces I've created for the show, using recycled, reclaimed and environmentally friendly fibres. I have long been fascinated also with colour and texture and it is a dominant aspect of most of my work.
